Communications Intern

About the role

The Department of Global Communications (DGC) at the United Nations seeks a Communications Intern to support the Office of the Under‑Secretary‑General for Global Communications (OUSG). This 4‑6 month internship in New York offers hands‑on experience in drafting, editing, and digital content creation for a global audience.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, edit, and proofread reports, briefing notes, correspondence and other written materials for internal and external audiences.
• Develop and adapt social‑media posts for various platforms, ensuring consistent messaging.
• Conduct research and compile information to strengthen communication outputs.
• Maintain organized records of working documents, finalized materials and related assets.
• Provide additional support to the Office of the Under‑Secretary‑General as required.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a bachelor’s degree, or hold a graduate degree (master’s or Ph.D.).
• Field of study closely related to communications, media, public relations or a similar discipline.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.
• Applicants who are children or siblings of UN staff are not eligible.
