Commissioning Engineer – Propulsion, Electrical & Mechanical Systems

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a senior Commissioning Engineer to lead the start‑up and testing of its autonomous surface vessel, Marauder. You will be responsible for ensuring that all marine propulsion, electrical, mechanical and environmental systems are properly commissioned, tested and ready for operation.

Key responsibilities

• Support marine engineering operations during production and initial sea trials.
• Troubleshoot diesel engines, water‑jet drives and auxiliary machinery.
• Provide technical guidance to Chief Engineers and vessel crews.
• Oversee commissioning, testing and acceptance of systems at the shipyard.
• Manage maintenance activities and spare‑parts inventory.
• Participate in a rotating on‑call schedule to address issues while vessels are underway.
• Develop and standardize planned maintenance schedules and engineering procedures.
• Coordinate with shipyards, vendors and internal teams during construction and refits.
• Ensure compliance with USCG, STCW and other regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Senior‑level marine engineering experience, preferably as a Chief Engineer.
• Hands‑on experience with major engine manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Wärtsilä or Mitsubishi.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex propulsion and auxiliary systems independently.
• Experience with new‑build commissioning and vessel operations.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work autonomously.
• Pass background check, USCG/DOT drug testing and eligibility for security clearance.
