CNC Machinist – Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department

About the role

The CNC Machinist supports teaching, research, and student project activities within the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering by providing high‑quality machining and fabrication services.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate metal and polymer components using manual and CNC/NC machines, interpreting CAD drawings and ensuring parts meet tolerance and finish specifications.
• Maintain and troubleshoot machining equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and manage shop inventory and procurement of tools and materials.
• Supervise and train work‑study students, provide technical guidance on manufacturability, tolerancing, and part design, and consult with faculty and capstone teams.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of machining experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Ability to manage multiple machining jobs under tight deadlines while maintaining shop safety standards.

Required skills

• Manual and CNC machining (lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses).
• CAD interpretation and CAM/CAD software programming.
• Equipment maintenance and preventive maintenance procedures.
• MS Office Suite proficiency (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
