Clinical Teaching Assistant - School of Nursing

About the role

Clinical Teaching Assistants (CTAs) are employed on a part-time, variable basis to help program faculty supervise nursing students during clinical and simulation/lab learning experiences. They support student learning, maintain lab environments and back up clinical instruction so that nursing education remains safe, effective and aligned with the school's mission. Applicants must have at least a BSN and an active, unencumbered Texas RN license; MSN or doctoral degree holders are preferred.

Key responsibilities

• BSN candidates: follow pre-set lab procedures, coach students and give feedback on skill performance, set up and break down simulations, maintain lab equipment, and act as a resource for students.
• BSN candidates: assist MSN-prepared faculty in supervising students in clinical settings, help plan clinical activities, communicate daily objectives with clinical staff, and support pre- and post-clinical conferences.
• MSN candidates: additionally direct and teach lab procedures, evaluate student performance, lead simulation scenarios including debriefing, oversee student experiences in external clinical facilities, and communicate daily objectives with charge and primary nurses.
• All CTAs: collaborate with faculty and course leads, carry out other duties as assigned, and uphold professionalism and teamwork.

Required profile

• Willingness to work with the Christian mission of the School of Nursing.
• BSN required; MSN or doctoral degree (DNP, PhD) preferred.
• Current, unencumbered Texas RN license or eligibility to practice as an RN in Texas.
• At least 3 years of clinical experience in the area of teaching.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer systems and relevant software.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build working relationships with faculty, staff and students.
• Sound judgment in high-pressure situations, strong organization and prioritization, initiative and adaptability.
