Civil Engineer – Municipal/Public Works

About the role

At Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF), civil engineers design, enhance, maintain and protect the communities they serve. This full‑time, on‑site position focuses on planning, designing and overseeing construction of municipal and public‑works projects such as water, wastewater, roadway and stormwater infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design and permit municipal/public works projects using CAD and other design software, covering water supply, treatment, distribution, storage, sanitary sewer, roadway, streetscape, drainage studies and stormwater management.
• Assist local municipalities with plan reviews, project planning and coordination with regulatory agencies.
• Prepare funding applications, reports, studies and grants related to municipal/public works projects.
• Perform construction administration duties, including procurement, submittal review, pay requisition, change‑order evaluation and funding disbursement requests.
• Attend municipal meetings and public hearings, and coordinate permitting with local agencies.

Required profile

• Four‑year degree in civil engineering.
• Minimum four years of related experience.
• Professional engineering license in Maryland or Delaware, or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months of employment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Experience with design software and computer‑aided drafting tools.
