About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a motivated intern to support the Children’s Legal Services (CLS) program in New York. This hybrid, part‑time position runs from June 5 to September 5, 2026, offering hands‑on experience in health promotion for unaccompanied immigrant children.
Key responsibilities
- Assist clients with Medicaid, New York Child Health Plus, and HealthFirst applications, including documentation submission and follow‑up.
- Facilitate transportation orientations to help clients navigate public transit and other travel options.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments, support check‑in, verify presumptive eligibility, and arrange interpretation services.
- Under supervision, assess client health needs and make appropriate community referrals.
- Research and develop health resources tailored to CLS clients.
Required profile
- Current student seeking academic credit (must indicate in cover letter).
- Interest in immigrant communities and child health and wellbeing.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the CLS team and follow supervision.
- Strong communication and advocacy skills for client support.
