About the role
The Chief of Section, Public Information leads the United Nations Publications Section within the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the role oversees policy guidance, product development, and sales of UN publications in both digital and print formats.
Key responsibilities
- Provides policy guidance to the Division Director on conceptual strategy development and management of the sale of UN publications, and contributes to publishing policies and procedures as a member of the UN Publications Board.
- Plans and oversees acquisition, product development, and sales of UN publications in digital and print formats, coordinating with author departments across the UN Secretariat to identify high‑quality products with strong market potential.
- Manages, supervises and carries out the work programme of the Section, coordinating work across UN Publications and UN Bookshops and providing programmatic and substantive leadership.
- Provides substantive input for reports presented to intergovernmental bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budget Questions, Committee for Programme Coordination, and the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly.
- Promotes wider dissemination of UN publications through marketing, licensing, and distribution arrangements in line with the Department’s Global Communication Strategy.
- Contributes to reporting on budget/programme performance and income‑generating activities related to the sale of publications.
- Prepares inputs for the Division’s work programme, determining priorities and allocating resources for timely delivery of outputs.
- Carries out programmatic and administrative tasks necessary for the Section’s functioning, including budget preparation, performance monitoring, results‑based budgeting inputs, staff performance evaluation, and supervision of external vendors.
