Certified Grounds Maintenance (Temporary)

About the role

This temporary, union‑backed position provides four‑season maintenance of the Carleton College campus grounds, including turf, landscape plantings, walks, roads, and athletic fields. The role works Monday‑Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with flexibility for weather‑related emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, repair, and improvement of campus grounds and related structures year‑round.
• Maintain accurate service records and troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Identify and schedule periodic and major equipment repairs.
• Adapt schedule for snow removal, storm damage, flooding, and special events.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; additional training in turf, horticulture, landscaping, or irrigation.
• Two industry certifications (e.g., MNLA Certified Professional, MDA Pesticide Applicator License, Certified Irrigation Technician, DNR Certified Tree Inspector, ISA Certified Arborist).
• Minimum two years full‑time, year‑round experience in institutional, municipal, sports turf, golf, or commercial grounds maintenance.
• Valid Minnesota driver’s license and ability to pass background and physical screenings.

Required skills

• Operation of hand and riding maintenance equipment.
• Equipment repair and preventative maintenance.
• MNLA Certified Professional.
• MDA Pesticide Applicator License (Category A, E & P, F aquatics).
• Certified Irrigation Technician.
• DNR Certified Tree Inspector.
• ISA Certified Arborist.
