California Legislative Director

About the role

The California Legislative Director will lead state‑level government engagement for Radiant, a fast‑growing hard‑tech startup developing portable nuclear micro‑reactors. This hands‑on, outcome‑driven position shapes policy, enables deployment, and unlocks sites where state and local decisions directly affect the company’s ability to build and operate.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement state legislation, regulations, rulemakings, and executive actions affecting industrial siting, permitting, grid interconnection, and critical infrastructure.
• Lead engagement with California regulators and public utility commissions; represent Radiant in hearings, meetings, and industry forums.
• Hire, manage, and coordinate external lobbyists and advisors, aligning their strategy with company goals.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, regulatory, legal, policy, communications, and operations teams to translate technical concepts into clear policy positions.
• Track state‑level policy developments and provide actionable guidance to senior leadership.
• Ensure compliance with state ethics, lobbying, and disclosure requirements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in California government affairs, public policy, or regulatory engagement within energy, defense, aerospace, or similarly regulated industries.
• Demonstrated ability to influence state‑level policy or regulatory outcomes.
• Deep understanding of California legislative processes, regulatory bodies, and permitting environments.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity and fast‑moving environments.
