Cable Technician II – Structured Cabling Specialist

About the role

Competitive Range partners with the government to plan and deploy complex, IT‑enabled, mission‑essential capabilities. The Cable Technician II will join the Network Infrastructure and Support team to install, maintain, and repair structured cabling systems across the DISA enterprise transport network.

Key responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and repair copper, fiber optic, and other telecommunications media using power tools and ladders.
• Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure, including troubleshooting trouble calls and performing routine maintenance.
• Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable while keeping installations neatly bundled and compliant with safety standards.
• Baseline, test, and validate all installations according to DoD STIG and engineering standards before deployment.
• Document baseline configurations of network assets and ensure accurate reporting in the government‑provided system.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of telecommunications experience, including work as a Cable Technician in a DoD environment.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent education and experience.
• Strong customer support skills in a high‑visibility environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of BICSI standards and rules.
• Proficiency with network cabling test equipment: network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, and fiber power meters.
• Hands‑on experience with structured cabling installation, termination, and testing for CAT6 and fiber optic systems.
