Bridge Engineer in Training – Transportation Structures

About the role

Woolpert is seeking a Bridge Engineer in Training to join its Transportation Design team in Houston, Texas. This entry‑level position provides hands‑on experience with bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related transportation structures across multiple states.

Key responsibilities

• Assist licensed Professional Engineers with analysis and design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures.
• Prepare plans, specifications, and calculations following AASHTO and state DOT standards.
• Use engineering software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, and structural analysis tools for design and drafting.
• Develop 3D models and structural layouts for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Support quantity take‑offs, cost estimating, and construction documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on roadway, geotechnical, and hydrological aspects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) from an ABET/EAC‑accredited program.
• Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, or ability to obtain within six months.
• 1–3 years of experience in transportation structures or structural design (preferred).
• Familiarity with TxDOT DM‑4 and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
