Behavioral Health Specialist – Clinical & Research Role

About the role

The Behavioral Health Specialist works within the Health and Legal System (HEALS) Lab at UAMS, providing clinical and research services to diverse populations, including community sites such as jails and prisons. The schedule is flexible, with possible evening and weekend hours, and includes both in‑person and virtual assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver individual and group therapy using evidence‑based interventions.
• Facilitate psychoeducational groups, provide crisis intervention, and coordinate referrals.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation for clinical and research activities.
• Travel to statewide community locations as required and support grant‑related tasks.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related mental‑health field.
• Valid driver’s license and eligibility for mental‑health licensure in Arkansas.
• 2–3 years experience with PTSD, substance‑use disorders, or related evidence‑based therapies.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, and excellent written and verbal communication.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
• Competent use of internet and PC applications for documentation and data entry.
