Banquet Captain

About the role

Legends Global, a partner to live events, venues and brands, is hiring a Banquet Captain for its on-site team at the Ithaca Downtown Conference Center. The Banquet Captain supervises and coordinates banquet servers so that food is served promptly, stays in close contact with the host throughout the event and ensures the highest possible guest satisfaction. Attendance in line with ASM Global's policies is essential.

Key responsibilities

• Consult with the Food Services Manager about serving arrangements and the extra staff and equipment needed.
• Meet the Chef on Duty at the start of each shift to review menu, timing, special requests and the Chef's expectations, and meet the client before the event to review the menu and itinerary.
• Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all customers at any time of day.
• Motivate servers, resolve conflicts and exceed guest expectations; lead the staff, run a shift lineup, inspect uniforms, menus and itineraries and give a short training topic.
• Prepare the Captain's Report on the function and the host, and maintain the highest level of customer service.
• Determine when a guest should not receive more alcohol in line with SAVOR policies, and inspect the function space before the event for cleanliness, organization and ambiance.
• Observe food being served to check it is correctly garnished and arranged, and keep front and back of house clean and orderly.
• Manage consumption sheets, complete closing duties and paperwork, and notify the manager when items such as lemons, creamers and coffee are running low.
• Give feedback on staff performance, report disciplinary issues, help counsel employees and foster a cooperative climate.
• Carry out supervisory duties including training, assigning work, appraising performance and resolving complaints, and report to the Banquet Manager and oncoming supervisor.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience as a banquet server or banquet Captain; previous supervisory experience preferred.
• A current Food Handler's Certificate and TIPS training are preferred.

What we offer

• Wage of $19.50 to $22.00, commensurate with experience.
• On-site work at the Ithaca Downtown Conference Center.
