Bakery Manager

About the role

Brookshire Grocery Company, based in Tyler, Texas, is hiring a Bakery Manager. The manager ensures baked goods are prepared and displayed according to company standards, oversees bakery personnel and promotes department sales, profits and customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Manage bakery staff: interview, hire, train and develop partners; assign work, appraise performance, reward and discipline them, and handle complaints and problems
• Review historical data to forecast sales from ads and promotions, and manage inventory to keep satisfactory stock levels
• Review profit and loss, sales, shrink and labor data and summarize issues to upper management
• Check inventory on trucks, unload products and verify ordering paperwork
• Be accountable for bakery sales, labor and financial and profitability objectives
• Enforce quality control and food safety standards, rotate dated products and inspect baked goods for quality
• Plan work priorities based on forecasts, and help with production, packaging, labeling, catering and occasional delivery
• Decorate baked goods, promote themes and display products attractively
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and serve customers by greeting them, answering questions and taking orders by phone and in person

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED and two or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination
• Minimum age 18; drivers must be 21 or older under the company driver policy
• Food Handler certification and Manager Food Safety certification required
• Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of bakery operations, scheduling software, in-store ordering machines and inventory management
• Ability to read and operate digital equipment, meters, dials and calibrated scales
• Ability to safely operate equipment such as a bread slicer and commercial oven
• Ability to use hand tools and to communicate with customers and partners
