About the role
The Water Department is seeking a Cross Connection Specialist to join the Customer Care Division and protect Fort Worth’s drinking water supply. You will identify and prevent potential sources of contamination to the public water system, ensuring safe, reliable water for over one million residents.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of plumbing and irrigation systems to identify and eliminate potential cross‑connections.
- Review plumbing, utility, building, and irrigation plans for compliance with codes and regulations.
- Inspect new and modified irrigation systems for water‑conservation and cross‑connection compliance.
- Apply and explain City and State cross‑connection, plumbing, and irrigation requirements.
- Provide technical support to Water Department staff, contractors, developers, and property owners.
- Process inspection data, maintain accurate reports and documentation, and manage a high volume of inspections while delivering professional customer service.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED with specialized training in Water Utility Operation.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Journeyman Plumber.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Texas State Master Plumber License with a Water Safety Protection Specialist (W.S.P.S.) endorsement within one year of employment.
- Ability to obtain a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) license.
- Ability to obtain an Irrigation Inspector license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Required skills
- Plumbing inspection and repair expertise.
- Backflow prevention assembly testing.
- Irrigation system inspection and water‑conservation knowledge.
- In‑depth knowledge of the International Plumbing Code and Texas water‑safety regulations.
- Ability to review technical plans and interpret plumbing and irrigation codes.
What we offer
- Sign‑on incentive of $2,000.
- Pay range $29.89 – $33.21 per hour ($62,177 – $69,085 annual).
