Backend Engineer

About the role

Wealthfront is looking for a Backend Engineer to join its core product development teams. You will design, build, and enhance backend services that power Wealthfront’s financial products, working in a highly automated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement new features and enhancements for backend systems and APIs.
• Maintain and improve the stability, reliability, and scalability of existing services.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, triaging and resolving production incidents.
• Automate testing, monitoring, and observability to minimize manual operational work.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve system reliability and performance.
• Contribute to recruiting activities, mentorship, and engineering community growth.

Required profile

• 2–6 years of experience developing backend components, services, or APIs.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and functional programming concepts.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MS SQL Server; familiarity with NoSQL is a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid on‑site environment.
