Automated Inspection Engineer

About the role

3M is seeking an Automated Inspection Engineer to develop and support high‑value manufacturing inspection and sensing solutions. You will work with global teams to improve product quality and enable new product development.

Key responsibilities

• Create automated inspection and sensing solutions for manufacturing operations.
• Adapt online detection tools to enhance existing product quality.
• Support and upgrade 3M’s proprietary automated inspection systems.
• Collaborate with corporate experts to design next‑generation capabilities.
• Lead data usage and analysis to help engineers understand processes and drive improvements.
• Work with operators, maintenance, supply chain and business roles to identify opportunities and coordinate solutions.
• Provide occasional on‑call run support as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related manufacturing STEM field.
• At least two years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment or supporting automated inspection/sensor systems (internships count).
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required skills

• Experience with sensors, image analysis, and optics.
• Knowledge of data flow, scripting, and building tools for complex data analysis.
