About the role

The Associate Economic Affairs Officer is based in the Financing for Sustainable Development Office (FSDO) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in New York. The role supports international development cooperation by providing economic analysis, intergovernmental support, and technical cooperation expertise.

Key responsibilities

  • Collect, evaluate, interpret and analyse socioeconomic statistics and qualitative information for sectors, countries, regions or development topics.
  • Maintain databases, organise non‑quantitative information and prepare briefing notes, speech inputs and other material for non‑specialist audiences.
  • Draft first‑version analytical studies on development issues, trends and progress in international development cooperation.
  • Assist in organising expert group meetings, advisory panels, seminars and other consultations on development issues.
  • Prepare inputs and summary reports for intergovernmental bodies such as the ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development.
  • Support the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals, documentation and capacity‑development activities.
  • Monitor and assess implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects.

Required profile

  • Strong analytical ability to work with quantitative and qualitative socioeconomic data.
  • Experience preparing briefing notes and analytical reports for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with intergovernmental processes and technical cooperation project cycles.
