Associate Director of Organizing

About the role

Essie Justice Group is seeking an Associate Director of Organizing to lead and deepen its membership strategy. This senior position will translate bold decarceration goals into concrete organizing systems, data infrastructure, and leadership pathways for a diverse community of women and gender‑expansive people impacted by incarceration.

Key responsibilities

• Operationalize and strengthen the organization’s membership strategy in partnership with the Director of Organizing Programs.
• Build and maintain data systems, tracking tools, and partnerships that drive member growth, retention, and political impact.
• Translate organization‑wide strategy into clear plans, processes, and team execution.
• Support the development and coordination of membership engagement and leadership pathways.
• Assess base strength, refine retention tactics, and turn member growth into measurable political outcomes.

Required profile

• Strategic, relational, and systems‑oriented leader with a passion for community‑driven change.
• Analytical thinker comfortable with data, metrics, and impact measurement.
• Experience designing and scaling membership or organizing programs.
• Strong ability to build relationships across diverse communities and political landscapes.
• Commitment to Black feminist, care‑based, and equity‑focused organizing.
