Associate Attorney, Corporate Counsel

About the role

USAA is seeking an Associate Attorney (Corporate Counsel) to provide legal guidance to internal business units at its San Antonio headquarters. You will analyze routine to moderately complex legal matters, support strategic objectives, and collaborate closely with the Chief Legal Office.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver legal counsel that aligns with business goals while mitigating regulatory, compliance, and litigation risk.
• Lead routine to moderately complex legal assignments, including drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Monitor and interpret changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards, advising leadership as needed.
• Support senior attorneys through research and issue escalation, ensuring all advice is provided by a licensed attorney.
• Identify, measure, and control risks associated with business activities in line with risk and compliance policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in one U.S. state or territory, or ability to obtain a license within 10 months of hire.
• 2‑3 years of experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements in a financial‑services environment or law firm.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Commercial agreement drafting and negotiation.
• Knowledge of privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
• Legal research and risk assessment.
