Assistant/Associate Extension Agent – Nutrition

About the role

The Assistant/Associate Extension Agent (Nutrition) will serve residents of St. Tammany and Washington Parishes in Southeast Louisiana, delivering community‑based nutrition education and health promotion. The position splits time evenly between the two parishes and is based out of the Covington Extension office.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and evaluate nutrition education programs focused on healthy eating, physical activity, weight management, and chronic disease prevention.
• Conduct interactive classroom sessions, food demonstrations, and tastings for adult audiences, with occasional youth programming.
• Recruit participants and engage community members through outreach, health expos, fairs, and Ag Extension events.
• Disseminate nutrition information via in‑person workshops, printed materials, local media, mass media, and social media platforms.
• Document program outcomes, prepare reports, and contribute to the LSU AgCenter Healthy Communities Program.

Required profile

• Comfortable working with diverse audiences and adapting teaching methods to various learning styles.
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across two parishes and represent the Extension program in public settings.
• Commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles and reducing obesity‑related chronic diseases.
