About the role

The Griffin Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking an Assistant Public Defender III to represent indigent individuals in criminal matters throughout Spalding County. This mid‑level position provides zealous advocacy in all phases of Superior Court proceedings and contributes to the Office’s mission of delivering high‑quality defense for those who cannot afford counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Represent indigent clients in investigations, arraignments, trials, and appeals.
• Prepare legal documents, motions, and briefs with thorough research.
• Handle routine cases and serve as lead or supporting counsel on serious felony matters.
• Maintain case files, manage deadlines, and coordinate with investigators and social service agencies.
• Perform other related duties as required by the Office.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited institution.
• License to practice law in Georgia or eligibility to sit for the bar within one year of hire.
• Current good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
• At least two years of relevant legal experience, including trial work (preferred).
• Demonstrated dedication to indigent defense.
