Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 4) – Georgia

About the role

The Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit is hiring an Assistant Public Defender at the Attorney 4 level to serve indigent clients in Haralson County. This full‑time position involves managing a complete caseload of serious felony matters, from investigation through trial or resolution, and requires a strong commitment to public defense.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present criminal cases, including entering pleas and filing motions.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft complex legal documents.
• Manage all phases of litigation, including case strategy, investigation, trial preparation, and courtroom advocacy.
• Maintain compliance with State Bar of Georgia standards and uphold zealous representation of clients.
• Collaborate with senior staff and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited institution.
• License to practice law in Georgia or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar within one year of hiring.
• At least three years of relevant legal experience, preferably in criminal law or a lower‑level Attorney 3 role.
• Good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
• Demonstrated commitment to indigent defense work.
