About the role

The Cordele Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office is hiring an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 3) to serve Ben Hill, Crisp, Dooly, and Wilcox counties. This senior‑level attorney will lead serious felony and appellate matters, providing zealous representation for indigent clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned co‑workers.
• Represent clients in all court stages, including arraignments, pre‑trial hearings, trials, sentencing, and appeals.
• Prepare and argue motions, conduct jury selection, deliver opening and closing statements, and examine witnesses.
• Negotiate pleas and settlements, review discovery, and manage case files and records.
• Collaborate with court staff, experts, witnesses, and clients to ensure thorough case preparation.

Required profile

• Current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
• Demonstrated experience handling high‑profile felony and appellate cases.
• Strong legal judgment, advocacy ability, and commitment to public defense.
