About the role
The Graduate Program in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2027. The appointment focuses on research and teaching in SLA, with a preference for second‑language processing (phonological, lexical, syntactic).
Key responsibilities
- Teach two graduate‑level courses each semester and develop curriculum.
- Advise and mentor graduate students in the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Collaborate with faculty across the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, especially in building the new undergraduate major in Multilingual Applied Studies.
- Maintain an innovative research agenda, publish in peer‑reviewed venues, and pursue extramural funding.
- Contribute to departmental service and the university’s strategic goals of transformative thinking, creativity, empathy, and meaningful futures.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition or a closely related field, completed by the start date.
- Evidence of a strong or promising publication record.
- Demonstrated potential for high‑quality teaching and graduate mentoring.
- Potential to secure extramural research funding.
- Native or near‑native proficiency in English and strong communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
