About the role
The Department of Art at the University of Maryland seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor specializing in sculpture, with a focus on metalwork and casting. The role combines teaching, mentorship, and an active creative practice that enhances the department’s interdisciplinary strengths.
Key responsibilities
- Teach two undergraduate sculpture courses per semester, covering introductory and advanced topics with emphasis on casting, metal fabrication, and contemporary practice.
- Mentor undergraduate and MFA students, develop curriculum, coordinate learning outcomes, and serve on MFA thesis committees.
- Maintain an active, nationally or internationally recognized creative practice, contributing to the department’s visibility through exhibitions, installations, and collaborations.
Required profile
- Terminal MFA or equivalent degree in sculpture, studio art, or a related field by the appointment date.
- Active, professionally recognized creative practice with national or international exposure appropriate to career stage.
- Preferred: 3+ years of university‑level teaching experience in casting, metal fabrication, welding, or related sculptural processes.
Required skills
- Expertise in casting and metal fabrication.
- Experience integrating digital fabrication or emerging technologies with traditional sculpture.
- Ability to teach sculpture across multiple undergraduate levels.
What we offer
- Salary range $90,000 – $95,000 per year.
