Assistant Professor of Sociology (Tenure-Track)

About the role

The Department of Sociology and Communication at Texas A&M University–San Antonio invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Sociology starting Fall 2027. The position emphasizes quantitative research, undergraduate teaching, and mentorship of student research.

Key responsibilities

• Teach six undergraduate courses per academic year (standard 3/3 load), including research methods, statistics, and courses in the candidate’s specialization.
• Develop and mentor Course‑based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) and supervise undergraduate research projects.
• Maintain an active, promising research agenda with a focus on quantitative methods and produce high‑quality scholarly publications.
• Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development, and community‑engaged initiatives.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related discipline by the start date.
• Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publication in quantitative sociology.
• Commitment to student‑centered teaching and mentorship, especially for Hispanic‑Serving Institution or majority‑Latinx student populations.
• Ability to integrate research into undergraduate coursework and support interdisciplinary programs.
