About the role
The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to start in August 2027. The position involves developing a research program on critical minerals, teaching core and specialized courses, and mentoring students in a vibrant, in‑person academic environment.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead an independent research program focused on critical minerals, including lithium brine deposits in Arkansas.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in economic geology and related subjects, and design new courses in the candidate’s specialty.
- Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, supervise research projects, and contribute to departmental service.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and outreach activities, maintaining regular in‑person presence on campus.
Required profile
- PhD in geosciences or a closely related field earned by the start date.
- Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Demonstrated potential or record of active research in critical minerals as defined by USGS or DOE.
- Strong record of publications and external funding in the field of critical minerals (preferred).
