Assistant Professor - Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

About the role

The Department of Engineering at Abilene Christian University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. The university is a Church of Christ-affiliated private institution that recently attained R2 status, and the position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and willing to support the university's Christian mission. The successful candidate will teach, mentor, conduct research and help build the program.

Key responsibilities

• Teach foundational engineering courses and specialized topics in mechanical or electrical engineering, using evidence-based methods and leading experiential learning, labs and project-based coursework.
• Collaborate on improving curriculum and lab facilities to support ABET accreditation.
• Establish a sustainable research program involving undergraduate students, pursue external funding and share results in peer-reviewed venues.
• Mentor students in academics, career planning and professional development, supervise senior capstone design projects, and advise student organizations and departmental committees.
• Take part in student advising, faculty governance, industry partnerships, program and curriculum development, and accreditation efforts.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Education or a closely related field (e.g. aerospace, computer, materials, mechatronics, nuclear or systems engineering).
• Record of effective communication, teamwork and planning; record of or potential for scholarly work.
• Preferred: university-level classroom and lab teaching experience, training in engineering education pedagogy, professional engineering licensure (PE) or intent to obtain it, and a track record of securing external research funding.
