Assistant Field Operations Supervisor

About the role

The City of Fort Worth Water Department seeks an Assistant Field Operations Supervisor for the Meter Services Section. The role oversees field activities related to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), water meter installation, replacement, repair, testing and reading, while managing a team of employees and coordinating with other divisions, agencies, and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise staff: assign work, conduct evaluations, ensure training, enforce policies, and maintain a safe work environment.
• Oversee all field activities using work order data, respond to complex customer inquiries, and manage emergencies and after‑hours issues.
• Develop and document training, policies, and procedures; generate daily and monthly reports and analyze data for operational decisions.
• Manage special projects, contracts, and contractors; research new industry processes and equipment for potential implementation.
• Monitor driver safety training, vehicle usage, schedule preventative maintenance, and handle accident/injury reporting.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED and at least three years of progressive experience in water field construction, maintenance, repair, or operations.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to obtain a TCEQ Class C Water Distribution Operator license within one year.

Required skills

• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience.
• Familiarity with billing software such as AS400‑Cisco.
• Knowledge of Automated Meter Reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems.
• Experience with RF/Wireless technology, Sensus FlexNet AMI, and Meter Data Management System (MDMS).
