On‑Call Community Cleaner – Talkin’ Trash Program

About the role

The Talkin’ Trash program provides temporary employment for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Clark County, WA. As an on‑call Community Cleaner you will help keep public lands clean while gaining work experience and support services.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of sidewalks, empty lots, street drains and other designated public areas within Vancouver city limits.
• Load and unload litter, furniture, appliances, tires and other disposables to the designated waste site.
• Empty trash receptacles, replace liners and distribute garbage bags to people residing outdoors.
• Support the driver by monitoring collected disposables through the program tracking system.
• Participate in employment support services such as PIC Career Academy, WorkSource, Goodwill Job Connection, or similar skill‑building classes.
• Complete a resume, attend job‑coaching and case‑management meetings, and conduct regular job‑search activities.

Required profile

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and follow safety procedures.
• Physical capacity to walk, bend, stoop, lift and carry up to 50 lb and perform overhead work.
• Capability to communicate respectfully with diverse individuals, including those experiencing homelessness.
• Willingness to work independently or as part of a team and follow traffic laws.

Required skills

• Use cleaning agents such as soap, polish and disinfectants.
• Operate cleaning equipment and supplies safely and effectively.
