Assistant Director of Academic Advising

About the role

Tarleton State University seeks an Assistant Director of Academic Advising to lead and supervise advising staff on the Stephenville campus. This 12‑month staff position supports undergraduate student success through data‑driven improvement and collaboration with campus partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and operational oversight of academic advising, including supervising staff and ensuring compliance with NACADA standards.
• Collect, analyze, and report advising and student success data to guide continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and assess flexible advising service plans, set performance indicators, and lead hiring of new advisors.
• Coordinate with deans, department chairs, and campus partners to align advising initiatives with retention and graduation goals.
• Conduct research on best practices, implement emerging technologies, and lead professional development for advisors.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum six years of experience in academic advising or related student services, with supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of student development theory and higher‑education policies (FERPA).

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Experience using student information systems, degree planning tools, and degree audit processes.
