Assistant Attorney General – Regulated Industries & Professions

About the role

Attorneys in the Regulated Public Interests section provide legal advice and representation to multiple state agencies, including the Office of Health Planning, the Georgia Public Service Commission, the Access to Medical Cannabis Commission, and the Insurance Commissioner. The role involves handling administrative hearings, litigation, and complex regulatory matters on behalf of the State of Georgia.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in administrative hearings and appear in state and federal trial and appellate courts.
• Research, draft, and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and formal opinions.
• Defend agency decisions on appeal and represent agencies in contested cases and rulemakings.
• Conduct mediations, settlement negotiations, and prepare discovery requests and responses.
• Provide written legal advice to client agencies through letters or memoranda.
• Stay current on legal developments and conduct research on pertinent issues.
• Engage in multistate working groups and review sign‑on opportunities for letters, comments, and briefs.
• Respond to inquiries from citizens, legislators, and judges, and attend relevant meetings.

Required profile

• Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the Georgia Bar.
• At least two years of relevant legal experience, preferably with litigation experience.
• Excellent legal writing skills and ability to prepare high‑quality pleadings and briefs.
