Assistant Attorney General – Criminal Justice & Public Safety

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Law is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join the Criminal Justice Division’s Public Safety section. This role provides legal representation to state public‑safety agencies and handles both state and federal litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Litigate cases and appear in state and federal courts on matters such as mandamus, declaratory judgments, and injunctive relief.
• Participate in administrative hearings, prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and conduct discovery.
• Provide legal advice to agencies like the Department of Corrections, GBI, Board of Pardons and Paroles, and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
• Draft formal opinions, memoranda, and respond to inquiries from citizens, legislators, and judges.

Required profile

• Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the Georgia Bar.
• Preferred: experience drafting and arguing dispositive motions, appellate briefs, and federal civil‑rights litigation.
• Working knowledge of state and federal civil practice, the Administrative Procedure Act, and experience in administrative hearings.
