Assistant Attorney General – Criminal Justice & Public Safety

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join the Public Safety section of the Criminal Justice Division. This position provides high‑quality legal representation to state public‑safety agencies and represents Georgia in state and federal courts.

Key responsibilities

• Litigate cases on behalf of agencies such as the Department of Corrections, GBI, Board of Pardons and Paroles, and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
• Appear in state and federal courts to argue motions, conduct trials, and handle appeals.
• Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and legal memoranda.
• Participate in administrative hearings, settlement negotiations, and multistate working groups.
• Provide legal advice to client agencies, draft formal opinions, and respond to inquiries from legislators, judges, and the public.

Required profile

• Bar admission and a law degree from an accredited institution.
• Experience in civil litigation and courtroom practice, preferably with state or federal matters.
• Strong research, writing, and communication abilities.
• Ability to manage a diverse caseload and work collaboratively with multiple agencies.
