Aircraft Mechanic I (Sheetmetal/Structures UH-60/AH-64/CH-47)

About the role

Amentum is hiring an Aircraft Mechanic I (Sheetmetal/Structures) for the Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) contract area in Washington. The mechanic repairs and replaces aircraft structural components on UH-60, AH-64 and CH-47 helicopters, working from drawings, blueprints, directives, technical manuals and safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Repair, fabricate, modify and install structural parts, forming blocks and shaping metal with stretching, shrinking and other metal-forming techniques
• Mix and apply fiberglass materials, primers and paints, and apply corrosion control treatments
• Balance rotary-wing aircraft blades and make emergency and permanent repairs to transparent plastic windows and enclosures
• Use measuring tools, precision gauges and alignment fixtures to perform structural repairs, and carry out inspections and component removal
• Requisition bench stock, prepare requests for turn-ins and repair parts, and perform final checks on assembled parts
• Perform operator maintenance, assist technicians and mechanics, and keep maintenance records
• Additional duties as requested, including maintenance tasks

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; U.S. military technical school or specialized training is desired
• Three years of aviation maintenance experience, two years on rotary-wing aircraft and two years on the assigned mission design series, all within the last six years
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain a NACI (T1) public trust security clearance; U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials
• Own tools/toolbox (requirements shared with selected candidates)
• Ability to work in a drafty, noisy, dirty shop, lift objects over 50 pounds, and pass a respirator fit test

Required skills

• Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal and structural repair
• Basic knowledge of tools such as torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, hydraulic presses, sheet metal brakes and shears
• Working knowledge of technical publications and logistics information systems
• Able to prioritize workloads and follow supervisor guidance

• Hourly pay of $43.78 to $45.31 (set by the collective bargaining agreement)
