Aircraft Mechanic - Customs and Border Protection

About the role

Amentum is recruiting an Aircraft Mechanic for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The CBP Aircraft Mechanic maintains and repairs aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical parts.

Key responsibilities

• Use technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions and restore equipment condition or operation, solving moderate to complex problems using blueprints and manufacturers' manuals.
• Perform daily, flight-line and hangar maintenance on assigned aircraft.
• Carry out inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting and fault isolation on aircraft systems.
• Furnish own hand tools; special tools and test equipment are provided by Customs.
• Occasionally lead teams on complex aircraft tasks, make entries in aircraft logs and records, and prioritize workload schedules.
• Periodically travel in support of the customer's mission.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current FAA Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) license.
• Competent in repairing airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems and aircraft engines, with knowledge of sheet metal/structural repair and military and general aviation logbooks.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft tools such as torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and shears.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a CBP background investigation suitability clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Physical ability to stand, squat, sit, walk, work with arms overhead and lift up to 50 lbs; ability to read, write and speak English.

Preferred qualifications

• Full-time aircraft mechanic employment in the past 12 months.
• 3-5 years of full-time aircraft mechanic experience.
