Adjunct Faculty - Graduate School of Theology

About the role

Abilene Christian University (ACU) is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty member for its Graduate School of Theology. The position is based at the university in Abilene or can be done remotely. ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ, so all applicants must be professing Christians willing to support the university's Christian mission.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality instruction, direction and support for students in the classroom, including classes of up to 25 students, possibly divided into sections for discussion and group activities.
• Give rich, timely feedback on student work, balancing encouragement with constructive criticism.
• Hold at least two office hours per week and be available by appointment for in-person or virtual meetings with students individually or in groups.
• Answer student questions about course material and academics outside class, and enter final course grades by the deadline.
• Alert the department chair or program director to student issues such as poor performance or policy violations like plagiarism.
• Comply with ACU's Handbook, Faculty Guidelines and the College of Biblical Studies' policies, and give feedback to the program or course improvement contact.
• Attend program and faculty trainings and update credentials and records as required.

Required profile

• A terminal degree and experience relevant to the courses assigned.
• Commitment to the ACU mission and policies and to the integration of faith and learning.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, collaboration and consensus-building, and the ability to manage roles within the university's broader mission.
• Self-motivated problem solver who can learn new software and learning management systems such as Canvas, and is open to additional training and faculty mentoring.
