Adjunct Faculty - Ethics (Remote/Asynchronous)

About the role

Abilene Christian University (ACU) is hiring an adjunct faculty member to teach an undergraduate pre-nursing certificate ethics course in a fully online, asynchronous setting. The position is remote and requires the candidate to be a professing Christian and to support the Christian mission of the university.

Key responsibilities

• Instruct, direct and support students in the online classroom, with class sizes of up to about 30 students.
• Give timely, constructive feedback on student work and answer questions about course material.
• Place students in groups for assignments and discussions, and run periodic synchronous interaction sessions.
• Facilitate and grade all assignments, enter final grades after consulting the Program Director, and alert the director to student issues such as poor performance or plagiarism.
• Take part in planning, developing and implementing the program and curriculum, give feedback to the Program Director, attend faculty meetings and complete faculty trainings.
• Stay current on trends in the field through practice, reading, research and continuing education.

Required profile

• Master's or doctoral degree in Philosophy, Ethics, Theology, Religious Studies or a related field, with at least 18 graduate hours clearly relevant to ethics or moral philosophy.
• Past or current full-time experience in the Bible, ministry, nursing or ethics.
• At least three years of online teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
• Willingness to support the Christian mission of the university.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft and G-Suite applications and in Canvas.
• APA style formatting and citation.
• Strong written and oral communication, attention to detail, time management and computer literacy.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively and to meet deadlines.
