Activity Therapist 3 – Central State Hospital

About the role

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking an Activity Therapist 3 to join the team at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. Under general supervision, you will plan, direct, and coordinate therapeutic recreation programs that enhance the mental and physical well‑being of clients.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct therapy sessions using sports, gardening, music, arts & crafts, and other recreational activities.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team to develop and evaluate individualized treatment plans.
• Assess client needs, interests, and abilities from medical records and direct observations.
• Document client participation, progress, and outcomes, adjusting programs as needed.
• Prepare and submit reports to the treatment team reflecting client responses and therapeutic results.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Activity Therapy, Psychology, or a related therapeutic discipline.
• Minimum two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health challenges.
• Experience writing progress notes and facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups.
• Knowledge of horticulture practices and experience with garden or greenhouse environments is preferred.
