Accounts Payable and Tax Manager

About the role

The East‑West Center is seeking an Accounts Payable and Tax Manager to lead its disbursement operations. This senior finance professional will oversee vendor payments, reimbursements, tax reporting and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while supporting the Center’s mission of fostering US‑Asia‑Pacific relations.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all disbursement activities, ensuring accurate, timely payments and adherence to contractual and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain internal controls, oversee tax form preparation (W‑2, 1099, etc.) and support internal/external audits.
• Manage and improve workflows within the ERP system, identifying automation and process‑enhancement opportunities.
• Prepare year‑end tax reporting, generate regular and ad‑hoc financial reports, and reconcile related accounts.
• Supervise, coach, and evaluate the Disbursing team, handling staffing schedules, performance reviews and training.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance or a related field.
• Minimum three years of progressive experience in finance or accounts payable, with strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
• Proven ability to lead staff in a unionized environment, resolve conflicts and manage workload priorities.

Required skills

• Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
• Strong tax reporting and compliance expertise.
