Accounts Payable Accountant (Accountant I)

About the role

The University of Maryland Dining Services Business Office is seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant (Accountant I) to join its delegated A/P team. The incumbent will audit invoices, manage electronic inventory records, process payments, and support vendor and internal customer relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Audit and receive invoices into the electronic inventory management system.
• Process invoices for payment through the University accounting system and submit document batches to the State of Maryland.
• Communicate and maintain relationships with internal customers and vendors.
• Audit cash reports and perform other duties as assigned, including occasional weekend or evening work for special events.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with at least nine accounting credits.
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Basic analytical skills and ability to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• GAAP knowledge.
• Experience with inventory management software.
• Experience with accounting software.
• Familiarity with enterprise systems such as Banner or Workday.
• Proficiency with personal computers and financial software.
