Accounting Engineer

About the role

At Clay, the Accounting Engineer role blends accounting, finance systems and AI to build scalable, automated finance operations. You will own the monthly close, manage ERP integrations and create AI‑driven workflows that accelerate reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end monthly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis and reporting.
• Maintain and enhance Clay’s ERP and related finance systems (payroll, expense, equity, billing) and their integrations.
• Develop AI‑powered automation workflows (using Claude, Cursor, etc.) to streamline reconciliations, variance analysis and close tasks.
• Partner with product, GTM and operations teams on finance‑adjacent projects and support FP&A data infrastructure.

Required profile

• 5+ years of accounting experience with exposure to public accounting and high‑growth startups.
• Hands‑on experience owning a monthly close, managing reconciliations and working with messy data.
• Experience implementing or administering finance systems/ERP.
• Proficiency in SQL for querying large datasets.
