Accountant II

About the role

Under general supervision, the Accountant II provides professional accounting support for the City’s financial operations. The role involves maintaining accurate records, preparing journal entries, and ensuring compliance with grant and audit requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger and subsidiary accounts; post daily, weekly, and monthly journal entries.
• Reconcile bank statements, investigate variances, and recommend corrective entries.
• Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries and process disbursements.
• Generate monthly, special, and project‑specific financial reports; analyze budget overruns and allocation discrepancies.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, closing entries, and financial statements.
• Monitor grant expenditures for compliance, submit financial reports, and perform month‑end reconciliations.
• Assist in preparing SEFA and SESA schedules and provide documentation for annual audits.
• Contribute to team projects and special assignments as needed.

Required profile

• Knowledge of ERP financial systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Understanding of GASB pronouncements and ability to apply them to municipal reporting.
• Familiarity with GAAP for governmental fund accounting.
• Ability to leverage technology to improve efficiency and collaboration.
