Access Coordinator III – Behavioral Health

About the role

The Access Coordinator III for the Behavioral Health Service Line works under supervision as a primary patient resource for scheduling and billing inquiries. The role supports comprehensive data collection, accurate billing, prompt payment collection, and coordination of appointments for clinical programs located in the Psychiatric Research Institute building.

Key responsibilities

• Verify insurance eligibility, explain benefits, request and file outside medical records, and maintain patient charts.
• Obtain authorizations and pre‑certifications, track them, and manage referrals.
• Schedule and coordinate appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic tests using hospital scheduling systems.
• Collect and post payments, issue receipts, reconcile daily deposits, and counsel patients on financial information.
• Perform all duties of Access Coordinator I & II and provide additional support to patient‑care activities as needed.

Required profile

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• At least three years of experience in registration or scheduling within a healthcare environment.
• Strong communication, telephone etiquette, and basic computer/keyboard skills.
• Excellent customer‑service abilities and familiarity with basic medical terminology.
• Preferred: Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification.
