About the role
The Academic Advisor I supports undergraduate students at Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine by guiding them through academic planning, registration processes, and career development. Working closely with students, the advisor helps them understand program requirements and connects them with campus resources to promote retention and success.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑on‑one advising on course selection, degree requirements, registration, add/drop, withdrawals, and curriculum changes.
- Deliver outreach and retention initiatives, monitoring student progress and referring to academic, career, health, and wellness services.
- Maintain accurate advising records, document student interactions, and contribute to departmental advising events and campaigns.
- Participate in up to 20% annual training, including onboarding, advisor meetings, and professional development sessions.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree required; no prior experience necessary.
- Understanding of student development concepts in higher education and ability to assist students in setting and achieving educational and personal goals.
Required skills
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Ability to handle confidential information and communicate clearly with diverse student populations.
