Women's Contemporary Designer

About the role

We are looking for a creative Designer to join French Connection’s Off‑Price division in New York City. The role will work closely with the VP of Design to develop a women’s contemporary collection that balances commercial appeal with the brand’s modern aesthetic.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Head Designer to take concepts from research and sketching through approved prototypes.
• Conduct seasonal trend, fabric and trim research, create mood boards and identify inspiration styles.
• Produce sketches and detailed technical packages to communicate design intent to sample rooms and production partners.
• Support first‑sample development, ensure timely delivery and maintain design integrity across the line.
• Collaborate with design, production and sales teams to align creative direction with commercial goals.
• Assist in sourcing fabrics and trims, liaise with overseas offices on product status and approvals.
• Attend fittings, evaluate fit and function, and make revisions to achieve showroom‑ready samples.
• Maintain organized project files and manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Required profile

• 5‑7 years of professional apparel design experience, preferably in contemporary sportswear.
• Strong eye for detail and a passion for women’s fashion.
• Highly organized, deadline‑driven and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast‑moving team.
• Effective communicator with the ability to work with cross‑functional and overseas partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
