Wire EDM Machinist

About the role

Collins Machine Works seeks a skilled Wire EDM Machinist to set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC Wire EDM machines for precision component production. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read complex blueprints. US citizenship is required for access to DoD facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Wire EDM machines to cut and shape precision parts.
• Select, align, secure, and remove fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories safely.
• Read and interpret drawings and blueprints, determining proper tools for each task.
• Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) to meet tolerance requirements.
• Perform daily cleaning and light maintenance on machinery.
• Work overtime as needed, including evenings and weekends.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; 3‑5 years of related experience preferred.
• US citizenship with ability to access DoD facilities (no visa sponsorship).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret technical instructions.
• Willingness to learn and effectively communicate instructions in English.

Required skills

• Understanding of Wire EDM process, setup, and maintenance.
• Proficiency with CNC programming codes (G, D, T).
• Blueprint reading and interpretation.
• Use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Operation of lifting aids and basic machinist tools.
