Walk-in Casework Intern – Summer 2026

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a motivated Walk‑in Casework Intern for the summer of 2026. You will support the Walk‑In Services team in providing case management to newly arrived humanitarian immigrants in the DC Metro area.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with client orientation days: send welcome emails, print documents, record attendance, and complete intake forms.
• Submit and follow up on external referrals for services such as English classes and health screenings.
• Conduct follow‑up calls with clients, providing guidance under supervisor supervision.
• Request and procure client documentation, e.g., social security cards.
• Research and compile community resources to address service gaps.
• Distribute on‑site donations, including activation of donated cell phones.
• Coordinate and lead in‑person training sessions on topics like library use and public transportation.
• Enter service data electronically and maintain organized client records.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Walk‑In Casework team.

Required profile

• Current undergraduate or graduate student, or less than 12 months out of school.
• Available to work a minimum of 30 hours per week for a three‑month commitment, with full‑time availability (approximately 37.5 hours per week).
