Volunteer Coordinator Intern

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a motivated Volunteer Coordinator Intern to support its New York/New Jersey Resettlement, Asylum and Integration office. Working under the Community Relations Officer and Volunteer Coordinator, you will help manage the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers and interns.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting, screening, training, and supervising volunteers and mentors.
• Maintain accurate data in relevant databases and record program metrics.
• Compile and post volunteer/intern job descriptions as needed.
• Manage monthly timesheets for volunteers and interns.
• Conduct outreach and networking to attract volunteers and partners.
• Oversee onboarding and exit processes, including background checks, account setup/closure, and orientation sessions.
• Liaise with program managers to identify volunteer and intern opportunities.

Required profile

• Previous experience in volunteer management, recruitment, or administrative roles (strongly preferred).
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
• Cultural sensitivity, detail‑oriented, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and teamwork in a cross‑cultural environment.
• Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.
